*Rickey Smiley broke out in tears during a recent Instagram Live, and many fans believe the emotional moment was due to Katt Williams’ viral interview with Shannon Sharpe (scroll down to watch).
During the comedian’s appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Williams said Smiley lied when he sat down with Sharpe on the podcast and said he auditioned to play the iconic pimp character Money Mike in “Friday After Next.” The role ultimately went to Williams, who claims he was never considered for any other role in the film.
“This man told you he had Katt Williams’ role. He was going to be Money Mike, and Katt Williams was going to be the Santa Claus,” he told Sharpe. “We auditioned in Los Angeles. I was audition No. 201. Two hundred Black comedians auditioned for the role of Money Mike with me. You’re saying all 201 of us was auditioning, and you had already had the role and had already shot the role in four days?”
Smiley replied and insisted he auditioned for the Money Mike role but ended up playing Santa Claus in the film.
“I guess the producers, Cube, and everybody saw something different,” he said.
Days after Williams’ pearl-clutching interview with Sharpe, Smiley went on IG Live and appeared sad while making a cup of coffee. He walked away a few minutes into the video and could be heard crying off-camera.
Some social media users believe he was emotional about the fallout with Williams. Other fans, however, noted that Smiley could still be mourning the death of his son, Brandon, who died about a year ago from a drug overdose.
