*Yep, guilty as charged! Cecil Whitmore, spouse of Dr. Simone Whitmore from “Married to Medicine,” has just given Hulu viewers a nod of confirmation regarding a Freaknik question.
On March 21, a keen-eyed viewer posted this query: “Hey, Mr. Cecil, is that you at Freaknik?” Accompanying the inquiry was a snapshot showcasing a younger Whitmore amidst two companions.
In a twist of fate, a new documentary, masterminded by Jermaine Dupri, delves into the “untold tale” of the iconic Atlanta gatherings that surged in popularity during the ’90s. Transporting audiences back to the genesis, the documentary chronicles how “Freaknik” initially emerged as a spring break bash conceived by Black college students at an Atlanta HBCU in 1983.
The erstwhile IT whiz verified his presence.
“Caught me red-handed!!! This is OG Freaknik, pre-’90s era, just for the record. @eugeneharrislll and I are brewing up some tales for our podcast—stay tuned!!!” he quipped. The snapshot in question was captured at the 1988 barbecue, which, back then, remained a collegiate affair.

Feeling playfully exposed, Whitmore decided to unveil more snapshots. The 51-year-old shared, “Since @MobzWorld busted me in #FreaknikOnHulu, here’s the following year, 1989, with my brother @dgolfer25! Fun tidbit for #Married2Med enthusiasts: my brother and the lady in the frame are the proud parents of Nephew, who crashed with us during high school.”
The image showcased David Whitmore, his spouse, and Cecil, beaming amidst a bustling Freaknik gathering.
He later reminisced that the AU Center was the ultimate hangout spot and party hub.
“Sure, the #freaknikdocumentary on Hulu is fantastic! But before things went wild, the AU Center was hands down one of the hottest spots for HBCU soirées and chill sessions. The Cali Club’s Beer Bash was legendary too. If you were in the know, you were in!” he reminisced.

Dr. Simone and Whitmore have been a legal 2-some since 1997, weathering storms and savoring triumphs along the way.
During the Season 5 “Married to Medicine” reunion, Dr. Simone startled fans by revealing plans for a divorce from Cecil. Nevertheless, nearly 30 years on, the couple’s bond remains unbroken.
The pair crossed paths as college students almost 35 years ago at Morehouse and Spelman College in Atlanta. Together, they’ve raised two children, Miles and Michael.
Regarding “Freaknik,” the HULU documentary shares the “untold story” surrounding the popular Atlanta parties that swelled to popularity in the ’90s.
