*An unprecedented number of African nations are represented by 28 contestants and countries this year in the Miss World pageant, taking place on March 9. The 3-hour program broadcast will air exclusively in the U.S. on The Africa Channel Inc. (TAC). The Africa Channel proudly partners with the Miss World organization to help shine a light on the bright future that contemporary Africa offers the world.

Each contestant from Africa is a positive role model for young women from the continent globally, and each carries the weight of presenting a positive narrative for her country. Contestants will compete in a total crowd of 120 young women all of whom won national beauty contests in their countries from across the globe in the “Beauty with a Purpose” themed contest.

The 28 African contestants and countries include Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

This past year, The Africa Channel exclusively premiered the Miss World South Africa pageant in the U.S. The winning contestant, Claude Mashego, is a medical doctor who uses her platform to advocate for social change and joins the other contestants on the final leg of the prestigious Miss World 2024 competition. Mashego is now an Africa Channel Ambassador who embodies our mission of bridging cultural gaps between Africa and the diaspora.

“We are delighted to bring the Miss World 2024 Final to our viewers and felt that by drawing attention to Africa and amplifying the causes advocated by these accomplished women participating from the continent, we would further the pageant’s theme of ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ and our mission of presenting contemporary African narratives,” said Karen Juve, Vice President of Programming at The Africa Channel.
