*The last time I drove a Kona, I remember thinking, “Oh this is an AB car,” one of those first-time cars you give to a teenager. Not a bad look, but nothing too impressive. Well, Hyundai stepped it up with the 2024 version and it’s looking like futuristic meets adventure. Before even getting in the car, I was like, “Okay Hyundaaaaiiiii.” It’s cute y’all. I like the smooth finishes, the LED lights, and the factory colors offered.

A Fun Drive and Upgraded Look

Sporty and Fun: Thinking about the Toyota Cross Hybrid, the Kona takes me to a whole new level when it comes to sporty fun. Driving this one around Charleston, South Carolina was the perfect fit, as we went through swamp land, countryside, and a few dirt roads, the Kona handled it all and performed well. It was the perfect adventure vehicle to drive in a place like this, handling city streets, lots of narrow roads, and bumpy ones. While it wasn’t quick on the draw when it came to punching the gas, once it got going, it was spicy! I loved the way it handled the road, the curves, and the speed!
Adding to the drive was the ambient lighting throughout the car. It’s a feature I think elevates the driving experience gives the driver control and creates the perfect drive vibes.
Storage and Space: Surprisingly spacious, the ‘24 Kona touts ample room for passengers, for your stuff both in the front and in the cabin. My driving buddy and I found it easy to store our drinks, all four of them, with ease in the front, along with our bags and things. With several charging outlets, including a wireless charger, we were well-suited for a long drive with lots of coffee. The backseat, which is always a concern of mine, wasn’t terrible. When I sat in the back, I felt it was standard space for a subcompact crossover SUV. It’s not super roomy, but will get everyone comfortably safe to the next destination.
Great Hyundai Tech and Notable Design: Hyundai doesn’t skimp on great tech. Connecting to your favorite apps and getting all the support drivers and riders on the road with all the best safety features, the Kona delivers an experience many adventurers are looking for. When it comes to the gear shift, I wasn’t too thrilled with it (neither was my driving partner). Located close to the windshield wiper control arm. They are very similar in their design. This was something we wished was left to an original design. I get the need to be innovative and creative, but this isn’t it. But with the upgrades, we did enjoy that the Kona includes buttons for climate control and more.
The exterior is something to write home about. The LED lights on either side of the hood, along with the strip in both the front bring the Kona to the future of car designs. It’s got great curb appeal. The Kona N Line, the sportier-looking version, flaunts a wing and some interior trim features that make any driver feel like they’re in a car racing movie. It’s all fun! Overall, the 2024 Kona was a fun car to drive. I enjoyed the ride and the ease of the driving experience. It is a great upgrade to previous models and now can be purchased in the electric version.
