*Wendy Williams’ ex-husband Kevin Hunter is taking legal action against Debmar-Mercury, the producers of “The Wendy Williams Show.”
We reported previously that Hunter is suing the production company’s founders Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus for wrongful termination. In 2019, he was fired as executive producer on his ex-wife’s daytime talk show amid reports that he fathered a child with his mistress (Sabrina Hudson). Williams filed for divorce and Hunter said his employment status changed days later, PEOPLE reports.
Hunter claims he was fired “on the basis of his marital status, which is barred by the New York City Human Rights Law.”
According to RadarOnline, he recently scored a major win in his court battle after a New York federal judge ruled against Debmar-Mercury’s attempt to dismiss his lawsuit.

As The Jasmine Brand reports, the suit read, “The termination of [Kevin] was based strictly upon [Kevin’s] marital status and his impending divorce to the Show’s host, ignoring all of the contributions that [Kevin] made to make the Show a success.”
The lawsuit alleges …“[Kevin] was used to being behind the scenes of Williams’ prior ventures and used his business knowledge and street smarts to negotiate a significant financial increase from the initial contract being offered to Williams.”
In court documents obtained by People, Hunter claims he received a notice from Bernstein informing him that his firing was “effective immediately,” after Williams filed for divorce in April 2019.
“The termination of Plaintiff was based strictly upon Plaintiff’s marital status and his impending divorce to the Show’s host, ignoring all of the contributions that Plaintiff made to make the Show a success,” the filing states. “As a result of Defendants’ aforesaid actions and the breach of their agreement with Hunter, the Defendants have been unjustly enriched from Plaintiff’s Executive Producer contributions to the Show, as well as enduring Product Integrations engagements Plaintiff has brought to the Show and that the Show has retained.”
Last year it was announced that “The Wendy Williams Show” would be ending and replaced with Sherri Shepherd’s new daytime talk show simply titled “Sherri.”
As Radar reports, Debmar-Mercury denied discriminating against Hunter and rejects his wrongful termination allegation.
A hearing for the case is set for later this month, according to RadarOnline.
