Uganda Woman, 70, Gives Birth to Healthy Twins | Video

*A 70-year-old Uganda woman is making international headlines after giving birth to healthy twins.

Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Center announced that Safina Namukwaya welcomed boy-girl twins at the Kampala facility on November 29. She has set the record for the eldest woman in Africa to give birth. The medical facility dubbed her “Africa’s oldest mother.”

The mother and her babies are reportedly doing well after the delivery, and Namukwaya is breastfeeding and pumping her milk.

Namukwaya’s fertility specialist, Dr. Edward, told TODAY.com that the babies were born prematurely at 31 weeks via C-section. Watch the YouTube clip above.

“I feel great,” Namukwaya shared with TODAY via an interpreter on a video call. “Some might argue that 70 years is old, but God decided that I get to have twins at 70. There is no one that can put a limit on God’s authority and power.”

The mother of three also noted that she has a strong support network to help care for the babies.

“Some households will be helping me with washing and the babies because of my advanced age,” Namukwaya said.

Namukwaya was able to conceive via vitro fertilization (IVF), using donor eggs, and her partner’s sperm.

“We implanted four embryos, and then of course, she conceived the twins,” Sali told TODAY.com.
