*As a transgender couple, Syven and Tori have endured many trials and tribulations. While they are still together as parents of two children, the pair, who both transitioned as kids, admits the road to conception was a rough one.
‘It took so long to conceive I honestly thought it ain’t going to happen,’ Syven shared with The Daily Mail.
Although he had doubts because he had taken testosterone for ‘so long,’ Syven’s dream of having children joyfully registered with the couple finding out that Syven could conceive naturally and his pregnancy.
Despite this, Tori and Syven were cautious regarding people’s reaction to them being tans.
‘Misconceptions [people] have is that because you’re trans you can’t have kids,’ Tori told the outlet.
While positive comments came after revealing Syven’s pregnancy, the opposite also arrived when some people ‘smirked and giggled’ upon seeing Syven walk around with a pregnant belly.
‘The negatives were basically, “Why are you having a kid if you’re supposed to be a man,” “Men don’t have babies,” and stuff like that,’ said Syven, who loved his experience being pregnant.
Despite the high of his pregnancy, the reality for Syven is the low of ‘being judged’ for being a pregnant man, a point that was evident when going to see his doctor.
‘You’re a pregnant man sitting around a whole bunch of females, looking at you like “no, it can’t be,” or “why?” Or “is it possible you’re faking?”‘ he said, adding, ‘So it gets bad and very uncomfortable because you don’t want to hide your pregnancy.’
Although the hate was clear, Syven collected the victory by pressing forward with his pregnancy. As a result, he and Tori are proud parents to Prophet, their one-year-old son, and Wynter, their one-month-old daughter. Both siblings were conceived naturally by Syven.
To those who have a problem with Syven and Tori and make fun of them, the couple’s response is a simple one.
‘People who made negative comments to us about being parents and being pregnant and trans? I think that they should keep their opinions to themselves and mind their business,’ Tori said.
