*Tracey Edmonds wants you to know that she initiated the breakup with Deion Sanders.
Edmonds hit up Instagram on Sunday (Dec. 10) to clarify the reason behind their split after 12 years together.
“I want to clarify that I decided to end the relationship, despite any different narratives being presented,” Edmonds posted, BET.com reports.
“I’ve chosen to prioritize myself and my family, moving forward towards a future where I am valued, treated with honesty, and free to embrace the happiness and respect I deserve,” she continued.
“I hate to have to respond to the media, but sometimes it’s necessary when the falsehoods get out of control!” the producer added.
Sanders and Edmonds initially said the decision to pull the plug on their relationship was mutual.
“To EVERYONE who has been there for us, supported us, and shown us love,” Edmonds shared on social media last week, Sports Illustrated reported.
“We have mutually decided that it is best for us to move forward in life AS FRIENDS and have made this decision with love in our hearts, respect for each other, and appreciation for the time we’ve shared together,” Edmonds continued. “Please keep us in your prayers as we go through this transition. Thank you for being there for us ALL THESE YEARS! We love you and appreciate you SO MUCH!”
As BET reports, Sanders responded to the message in the post’s comment section.
“Love u Tracey and You’ve been a true blessing to me. I appreciate the times we’ve shared and the laughs we’ve had,” the University of Colorado football head coach wrote. “You are an amazing woman and a tremendous mother. God bless u with every endeavor and every step u take. You are HER. Tracey-Mack !!!”

In 2019, Edmonds announced she and Sanders were engaged after eight years of dating. She was previously married to singer/producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds from 1992 to 2005. They share two children, Brandon and Dylan. Edmonds was also briefly married to Eddie Murphy in 2008 before calling it quits two weeks after their wedding.
Sanders has been married twice before to Carolyn Chambers (1989–1998), with whom he has two children, Deiondra, 31, and a son, Deion Jr., 29, and Pilar Biggers-Sanders (1999–2013), with whom he shares three children, Shilo, 23, Shedeur, 21, and daughter Shelomi, 18.
