Jazz vocalist Sandra Booker releases live album “The Reunion Concert.’

*“It’s a live performance recorded in 2015,” said Jazz vocalist Sandra Booker about her new album release “The Reunion Concert: Live From Pasadena Conservatory of Music Barrett Hall” by Sandra Booker and The New Trio. “A lot of things occurred in my life. The day of the concert my mother had a stroke … Now we’re in 2022.”

Sandra said she was going to cancel the concert because her mother had a stroke, but her sister told her that her mother would not have wanted her to cancel it, to stay the course and sing for her. A mentor told her that it was time to put it out – after listening to it.

“He wrote the line notes,” she said about her mentor Grammy-winning, six-time Academy Award-nominated, and four-time Emmy-nominated Lalo Schifrin. “He is always encouraging.”

Booker’s “The Reunion Concert…” project is supported by her band The New Trio, which consists of Tamir Hendelman on piano, Robert Perkins on drums, and Dave Robaire on upright bass, with special guest Steve Cotter on guitar.

“I’m with heavy hitters,” Sandra said. “I produced it. I did everything, except the instruments. I’ve worked with all these guys except Steve.”

The album has nine selections, three are original songs by Sandra Booker such as “Eddie,” “Over and Over Again”, and “What Made God?”. Some of the selections include Duke Ellington’s “In a Sentimental Mood,” “My Ship,” Sarah Vaughan’s “Black Coffee,” Ira and George Gershwin’s “But Not For Me”, and the 1930 single “Crazy Girl.”

“I’m working on two other projects, a one-woman show, the Women in Jazz Committee – a movement, and two novels,” Booker concluded. www.SandraBooker.com
