Buhari ruled Oil-rich Nigeria as a civilian president from 2015 and will hand over on May 29 to a new President. He was also a Military Head of state from 1983 – 1985. Difficult to pinpoint Buhari’s successes during his leadership which Nigerians struggle to see. Is it the not-so-successful fight against Boko Haram and the kidnapping of the Chibok girls… The mishandling of Covid19…the Fulani Islamic terrorist herdsmen and relatively poor sporting achievements under his leadership? The end SARS student protesters who were killed by Lagos police? Or his banning Twitter in Nigeria? Or the Naira currency fracas? And the list goes on.

Nigeria is a big populous nation in Africa and everyone wants the elections to be free and fair and for Buhari to hand over the reins of power smoothly and set off into the Sunset. His record as the oldest Nigerian leader in office at 80, will take some time to be broken. President Donald Trump described President Buhari after their April 30, 2018 meeting in the White House as “Lifeless”….OUCH!

Which Way Nigeria…Which Way to Go?
The late Sonny Okosuns sang “which way Nigeria,” a 1984 popular and evergreen recording. He was one of the leading Nigerian musicians from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. His song and lyrics remain as poignant today as they were then. Okosun sang protest songs including “Fire in Soweto” and “Papa’s land.” He died in 2008. Nigerians still remember his “which way Nigeria” and this makes the elections more important for Nigerians and young people to decide at the polling stations around the country, who they want in leadership. Nigerians are wondering which way Nigeria is heading. The decision is in their hands on Saturday.
