Pastor Mike Todd Talks Healing Through Theology and Therapy in New Book | EUR Exclusive

Trauma to Triumph,
NY Times Best Selling author, Mike Todd

*NY Times Best Selling author Mike Todd is back with a new book, “Damaged But Not Destroyed: From Trauma to Triumph,” which “will encourage and inspire you to remember that your failures do not define your future,” said Robert Morris, senior pastor of Gateway Church, in a statement.

Todd is the lead pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, OK, where over 5K attend and over 20K watch virtually week to week, according to a press release.  In 2022, Todd went viral for a radical demonstration in which he used saliva to illustrate the text.

We reported at the time that Todd faced major criticism for rubbing his spit on a man’s face as part of his sermon topic: “Receiving a vision from God might get nasty.” The viral video shows him coughing up phlegm into his hand and smearing it all over the face of a parishioner on stage. It was later revealed that this man was his brother.

“And this is where most people would not face Jesus anymore,” Todd said in the video.

“What most people would do would [be to] turn away,” he added as he cupped saliva in his hand.

Todd’s message was that “receiving a vision from God might get nasty” and that’s when he rubbed the phlegm all over his brother’s face.

A year later, Pastor Todd revisits that day and the aftermath with his readers in his third book, “Damaged But Not Destroyed.”

EUR unpacked the controversial moment in our exclusive new interview with the religious leader and musician. In the clip below, Todd also explains why he believes theology and therapy go hand-in-hand, and offers encouraging words for people who feel shame about any financial insecurities.

Watch our full conversation below and check out his viral songs, “Most High,” and the fan favorite, “Overflow.”
