Angela Bassett serves as executive producer and narrator for the new series QUEENS; which, per the press release,  “features matriarchies and female leaders around the world to tell a story of sacrifice and resilience but also of friendship and love. “Guided by award-winning actress Angela Bassett’s powerful narration, QUEENS brings the natural world into focus through the female lens for the very first time,” the description continues. “Four years in the making and helmed by a female-led production team from around the world – groundbreaking in the natural history space – the seven-part series leverages cutting-edge technology to reveal surprising insights into how females in the natural world rise to power, often relying on cooperation and wisdom over brute strength to get ahead. The final episode of the series celebrates the women who have gone to the ends of the Earth and dedicated their lives to documenting and protecting animal queens. We don’t call her Mother Nature for nothing. All hail … the QUEENS.”

“The narrator’s voice is such a crucial part of what makes a Natural History series successful. In related news, Idris Elba is also collaborating with National Geographic to executive produce “The Color Of Victory: Heroes Of Ww2,” a series that reveals the untold stories of people of color who fought in WW2 and restores their place in the historical narratives of the war.

Per the press release, “The series focuses on three unsung heroes in each episode, true-life soldiers and sailors hailing from India to Idaho. Through premium dramatization, mixing war sequences with deep character portraits, the stories of these men and their units will be told for the first time, highlighting the roles they played in epic theaters of war – Dunkirk, Pearl Harbor, D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. Intercut with powerful testimony from our core characters’ descendants, insight from specialist historians and meticulously sourced archive of the soldiers themselves, THE COLOR OF VICTORY restores the stories of these men and their units to their rightful place in the narrative of WW2,” the description states.

“Over 10 million people of color fought on the Allied side – but their achievements have largely been airbrushed out of traditional narratives. Empathetically narrated by Idris Elba, whose own grandfather served in the war, this premium box set series turns the lens on global history,” the series synopsis continues.

Premiere dates for each of these upcoming new shows have not yet been announced.
