*The new action-comedy animated series “My Dad The Bounty Hunter” is now streaming on Netflix, and we caught up with the stellar voice cast to discuss this fun new show for the entire family!

“My Dad The Bounty Hunter” hails from Everett Downing and Patrick Harpin that takes viewers on “a warp-speed adventure across the constellation of ups, downs and moments in between that shape family life,” per the official synopsis.

This animated action-comedy series follows “close-knit siblings Lisa and Sean, who stow away on their dad’s latest work trip, hoping to finally get some quality time together. Little do they know Dad’s been keeping a secret from them — he’s actually the toughest bounty hunter in the galaxy! Launched into the surprise space adventure of a lifetime, Lisa and Sean discover that their seemingly average dad’s job is anything but boring,” per the synopsis.

“Dodging dangerous aliens, robots, and laser fights galore, family bonding time becomes much more than they bargained for as they try to help their dad in pursuit of his toughest fugitive yet. With his kids along for the ride, Dad must show up for them when they need it most — and they’d better make it home before Mom finds out!”

The series has received solid reactions from critics and audiences who are here for the representation and balance of drama, resonating familial themes and wild Afrofuturism.

“A lot of the inspiration for this show came out of the fact we never see [space] from a Black point of view,” co-creator Everett Downing Jr. tells Rolling Stone. “It’s a different perspective that people crave. As a kid, seeing Lando Calrissian [Billy Dee Williams] in Star Wars blew my mind. I was like, There’s a Black dude in space!’”

We further unpacked this theme of Black characters in sci-fi/exploring outer space with Downing and Harpin, as well as series (voice) stars Laz Alonso, Yvonne Orji, Priah Ferguson, and JeCobi Swain.
