*Killer Mike and T.I. have reportedly secured a 1.2 million dollar loan to renovate a popular seafood restaurant in Atlanta.

We reported previously that the duo announced in 2019 their plans to resurrect the Bankhead Seafood Restaurant in northwest Atlanta. The eatery opened on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in 1968 and closed in 2018.

“It’s been a part of my life as long as I’ve been on earth,” Killer Mike said previously.

AfroTech reports that Greenwood lenders and Georgia Banking Co. (GBC) provided the $1.2 million boost for the restoration efforts. The funds will help support the expansion of Bankhead Seafood Restaurant and create job opportunities in the community.

“Today’s investment serves as a profound testament to the broader vision we’ve cultivated at Bankhead Seafood,” T.I. said in the news release. “It’s exciting to join forces with leaders like Greenwood — whose commitment to uplifting the community echoes our same ethos. This is an exciting moment in our community’s work to foster a legacy of mutual prosperity and support.”

Per Afro Tech, Ryan Glover, chairman and CEO of Greenwood, stated: “We’re proud to support Bankhead Seafood, a business that aligns perfectly with our mission at Greenwood. I have known each T.I. and Killer Mike for over 25 years and have been proud and a supporter of their professional growth and commitment to improving the community. This partnership is simply the beginning of the support Greenwood will extend to innovative Black-owned businesses for years to come.”

According to WSB, T.I. and Killer Mike acquired the restaurant’s name, trademark, and recipes. Killer Mike said he may include his aunt and grandmother’s biscuits on the menu.

“If Bankhead Seafood if we only stayed there, we have failed. It is our job to end up in other communities,” Killer Mike said, as reported by Black Enterprise. “Just like Waffle House and Chick-Fil-A were born out of Atlanta, and we’ve seen other restaurants and businesses grow out of here, we can be the next one. We owe it to our community. Our goal is to become a national chain.”

Killer Mike revealed previously that Bankhead Seafood will “be a fully-functioning” restaurant, complete with a liquor license.

“This is a transformational milestone for our business, and the broader Southwest Atlanta community,” Killer Mike said in the release.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to Greenwood and GBC, whose partnership today provided us with the resources we need to kickstart Bankhead’s future, and re-build a community gem,” the rapper continued.

The restaurant is anticipated to open in the second quarter of 2024.
