*Marcus Stokes posted a two-second clip in November showing him reciting song lyrics that contained the N-word. The backlash was immediate, prompting the University of Florida to revoke its scholarship offer from the quarterback recruit.
Now Stokes, who is white, has received an offer from the HBCU program at Albany State, CBS News reports.Â
Stokes committed to the Gators in July 2022, but after the school saw the video of him using the racial slur, his scholarship offer was pulled.
Stokes apologized in a statement posted online that read, in part: “I deeply apologize for the words in the song that I chose to say,” Stokes said. “…I fully accept the consequences for my actions and I respect the University of Florida’s decision to withdraw my scholarship offer to play football.”

On Tuesday, Stokes annoucned the scholarship offer he received from Albany State, a Division II HBCU program. In his tweet, he tagged new Albany State head coach Quinn Gray.Â
Stokes played quarterback for Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Fox News reports that the teenager was among the top 50 players in the state.
During high school, Stokes reportedly received offers from many schools, including Penn State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern and Georgia State. According to The St. Augustine Record, he flipped his commitment from Penn State to Florida in July.
