*Backlash over a recently unveiled wax figure of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has the museum housing the sculpture changing its skin tone.
According to Complex, the Grevin Museum in Paris responded to criticism of the wax figure on social media by changing its outer appearance to a darker complexion. The noticeable mess up of Johnson’s wax sculpture, even caught a reaction from the WWE icon himself, who shared his reaction to the situation on Instagram.
“For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at Grevin Museum, in Paris France, so we can work at ‘updating’ my wax figure here with some important details and improvements—starting with my skin color,” Johnson said to fans. “And next time I’m in Paris, I’ll stop in and have a drink with myself.”
Johnson’s team accomplished their mission. The head of Grevin Museum public relations, Veronique Berecz, fessed up to the skin tone mistake, saying the initial skin color was an honest mistake and the wax figure was “whiter than it should have been.”
Right along with Berecz, Greven Museum marketing director Yves Delhommeau updated fans on the wax figure via an Instagram video.
“His skin tone seemed too pale, and we suddenly realized we might have got it wrong,” Delhommeau said in the clip. “Painting on wax is very complicated.”
The museum’s reaction and update comes after fans brought their view of Johnson’s statue to light, noticing how the creation was lighter than the man it was modeled after. Bald celebrities mentioned in comparison to the wax figure were Johnson’s “Fate of the Furious” co-star Vin Diesel as well as Mr. 305 Pitbull and Mr. Clean.
Now that things are getting on the right track with Johnson’s wax figure, maybe we can get that dream match wrestling fans have been craving with Johnson going one-on-one with the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns, at a major wrestling event.
Stay tuned for whenever it finally comes to pass.
