*Saturday night (03-04-23), comedy icon Chris Rock made history in Baltimore for the first-ever Netflix live-streamed global event, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage. Obviously, most people watched to see what he would say about the infamous slap by Will Smith. Trust us, he definitely addressed it. Did he ever! Also, we’ve got viewer feedback on the show that you just might find surprising.

But before Chris took the stage, Ronny Chieng kicked off the historic night with The Show Before The Show, live from The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, with Arsenio Hall, Leslie Jones, Deon Cole and more. The show included live commentary from fellow comedians and special messages from some of Rock’s friends including Cedric The Entertainer, Ice-T, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Matthew McConaughey, Sir Paul McCartney, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, and more.

During the pre-show, Chieng shared the news that Netflix is a Joke Fest will officially return to Los Angeles May 2nd – May 14th, 2024. Netflix is a Joke launched its inaugural festival in April of 2022, selling over 260,000 tickets, making it the biggest comedy festival in the US. The 12-day festival boasted 295 shows and 336 comedians across more than 35 venues in LA, and tied for the longest run of shows at the Hollywood Bowl.

After Chris’ legendary show, David Spade and Dana Carvey hosted The Show After The Show with special guests Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, JB Smoove, Arsenio Hall, and Yvonne Orji who were live from The Comedy Store wrapping up the epic night.

Speaking of the after-show, Spade and Carvey shouldn’t have been the hosts. For obvious reasons, they were completely out of their league. Meanwhile, we’re wondering if there’s some wrong with Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He was there, but not there if you know what we mean.

OK, now that we got the Netflix pre and post-show propaganda out of the way, let’s talk about why most people watched the special, to begin with. To see what Chris Rock would say about the infamous “slap” by Will Smith that happened a year ago at the Oscars. Put it this way, Chris Rock did not hold back. Repeat. Chris Rock DID NOT hold back. Bottom line: we don’t think Chris and Will and Jada will EVER be friends again.

“Will Smith practices selective outrage,” Rock explained. “Outrage because everybody knows what the f**k happened. Everybody that really knows, knows that I have nothing to do with that shit. I didn’t have any entanglements.”

He continued, “His wife was f**king her son’s friend. OK, now, I normally would not talk about this sh**t, but for some reason, these n****s put that shit on the internet. I have no idea why two talented people would do something that lowdown. What the f**k? And we’ve all been cheated on. Everybody in here has been cheated on. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person that cheated on us on television.”

Everyone knows what happened by now, Rock said, and he’s still asked if it hurt: “Of course it f**king hurt. It still hurts,” adding, “but I’m not a victim, baby. You will never see me on Oprah crying. It’s never gonna happen … I took that hit like Pacquiao,” he said and the crowd cheered.

“She hurt him way more than he hurt me. Everybody in the world called him a b**ch. I tried to call the motherfucker, I tried to call that man and give him my condolences, he didn’t pick up for me.” He continued by listing all the people who called Smith a “b***h” after that interview on Red Table Talk, including Charlamagne Tha God and The View. “Everybody called him a b**ch, and who did he hit? Me a n***a he knows he could beat. That is some bitch ass sh*t.”

Finally, Rock closed out “Selective Outrage” with an answer to the question he’s received a lot since the Slap: Why didn’t you do anything back?

“‘Cause I got parents,” Rock said. “‘Cause I was raised. And you know what my parents taught me? Don’t fight in front of white people.”

And you, Chris, didn’t have a problem using the n-word in front of white folks, a lot of folks would argue about you.

And that makes us curious as to how people felt about Rock’s special.

To find out we went to social media to get a sampling of reactions. Overall, our reading is that a lot of folks were just not feeling Rock’s “Selective Outragespecial.

First some naysayers:

perrysnotyourplatypus: “Aggressively unfunny” describes Chris Rock pretty much ????

0nlyone.sysha: he never been funny

reewhit_: Saying to kill a kid til they’re four was sad because in todays time parents are killing their kids at an all time high… not funny sorry!

honey_shakur: Chris rock never ever been funny to me idc argue with ya mammy

summer_m_flowers: It’s sad that I’m a situation where Chris should be the victim and have the people on his side. He failed to play it right & become the villain and turned the people against him.

Let’s see what the supporters had to say:

nikkiescraftco: He’s STILL FUNNY!!! Always been funny. The SELECTIVE OUTRAGE is spot on. Y’all love the TV shows, and his corny movies but wanna side with the Fresh Prince.

dear_lin_zee: Chris was Chris. The issue is people are watching his standup simply because of the Will thing. Chris Rock fans know his style of comedy.

mahoganyymonique: I thought it was hilarious, at this point i think twitter users like to hate things. ????????‍♀️

hmmm_ok1215: This new wave of folks are close-minded to anything that don’t fit their narrative. LIKE HE SAID, Selective outrage☹️ you’ll so afraid to laugh at yourselves ????
