*Bronny James is out of the hospital and recovering after suffering a cardiac arrest on Monday, and a popular sports doctor has thoughts about the 18-year-old’s chances of some day following his father LeBron James into the NBA.

Bronny, a freshman at USC after making headlines with Sierra Canyon High School’s basketball team, was attending an informal team workout on Monday (July 24) when he reportedly collapsed and 911 was called.

A statement released the following day from his team said that Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest and was treated by USC’s medical staff before being taken to the hospital. He spent time in ICU before eventually being stabalized, and finally being released on Thursday (July 27).

While basketball is currently taking a back seat to the young man’s health, popular sports doctor, Brian Sutterer, shared a video on YouTube answering talk about Bronny’s future in the family business, and casting doubt on his father’s ultimate dream of one day playing in the NBA with his son.

“There are some causes of cardiac arrest that you find the exact cause, and it still isn’t necessarily safe to return to sports because the risk is so high of having another cardiac arrest and potentially dying,” Sutterer said. “If they don’t find an exact cause and you don’t really know what happened, you have to have that discussion of what exactly are the risks of going back out there and playing. Extremely serious situation we’re dealing with, then legitimately something that affects the rest of his career depending on what we discover and depending on what they have to do about it.” Watch below:

James has expressed publicly his desire to play with (or opposite) Bronny in the NBA, and there’s a belief that his decision not to retire is because of this ultimate goal.

The sports site YardBarker.com writes: “If Bronny is deemed unable to continue with his basketball journey, that could potentially spell the end of LeBron’s time in the league. LeBron has committed to playing the upcoming season for the Los Angeles Lakers and given his track record of honoring his contracts, is unlikely to renege on his decision.”
