*Fox’s new midseason game show “We Are Family” is getting a new hosting team with Anthony Anderson and his mother Doris Hancox Bowman (aka “Mama Doris”).
The duo will replace previously announced hosts Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne Foxx. Deadline reports the shift was due to a scheduling conflict for the Oscar-winning “Ray” star. Although Jamie Foxx will not be in front of the camera as host for “We Are Family,” he is still set to executive produce the music-centered show, along with Jeff Apploff, Joni Day, and showrunner Matilda Zoltowski.
“We’re so excited to have Anthony and Doris headline We Are Family,” said Allison Wallach, President of Unscripted Programming at Fox Entertainment. “They embody everything that’s special about this show –a ton of laughs, a lot of heart, and some friendly edge-of-your-seat competition that the whole family can enjoy.”
Premiering Jan. 3, “We Are Family” features non-famous relatives of celebrities performing duets with their hidden famous family members. The show’s audience will consist entirely of 100 contestants who play through multiple rounds of clues and gameplay to win up to $100,000 each by correctly guessing which celebrity the performer is related to before they are revealed.
Celebrities ranging from musicians and professional athletes to actors, among others, will appear on “We Are Family,” which will encourage viewers to play along at home with their families to figure out the famous face behind the talented relative, according to Deadline.
“We Are Family” marks the latest in a string of onscreen pairings for Anderson and Mama Doris. The duo, who recently completed a six-week journey around Europe for their reality show “Trippin’ With Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris,” have previously appeared on the game show “To Tell The Truth” and “Black-ish.”
For Anderson, the chance to host “We Are Family” was a no-brainer.
“I jumped at the opportunity to host ‘We Are Family’ and can’t wait for you to see all the celebrities, their relatives, and the many surprises we have in store this season – and with my mama by my side, you never know what’s going to happen!” the former “Black-ish” star said.
