Cyntonia Brown Slams New Netflix Doc About Her Murder Case: ‘I Had Nothing to Do With This’ [TRAILER]

*Cyntoia Brown has spoken out against an upcoming Netflix documentary about her murder trial, calling the project “unauthorized.”

Brown was released in 2019 after 15 years in prison for a murdering a man she claims paid her pimp to have sex with her. She and her supporters argued that the death of 43-year-old Johnny Allen was self-defense, and the controversial case will be explored in the new Netflix documentary “Murder to Mercy.”

“When I was 16, I did a horrible thing,” Brown says in the doc’s new trailer (see above). “I do pray that you show me mercy and that you give me a second chance.”

Shortly after the release of the trailer, Cyntoia took to her Instagram account to slam the documentary, making clear she had nothing to do with it.

“While I was still incarcerated, a producer who has old footage of me made a deal with Netflix for an UNAUTHORIZED documentary, set to be released soon,” she wrote on Instagram. “My husband and I were as surprised as everyone else when we first heard the news because we did not participate in any way. However, I am currently in the process of sharing my story, in the right way, in full detail, and in a way that depicts and respects the woman I am today. While I pray that this film highlights things wrong in our justice system, I had nothing to do with this documentary.”

During trail, Brown testified that her 24-year-old pimp, called Cut Throat, was sexually, physically, and emotionally abusive.

“He would explain to me that some people were born whores, and that I was one, and I was a slut, and nobody’d want me but him, and the best thing I could do was just learn to be a good whore,” she said

Brown was granted clemency by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam on January 7, 2019. She was released from prison on August 8, 2019.

Brown’s case caught the attention of several celebrities, including LeBron James, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.

“The system has failed. It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what’s right. I’ve called my attorneys yesterday to see what can be done to fix this,” Kardashian wrote in Twitter in 2017.

“Murder to Mercy” hits Netflix on April 29.
