*Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President and other civil rights leaders on Sunday, December 1 launched a petition on Change.org calling on Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts to designate a street in Inglewood in honor of Stevie Wonder. The petition has met instant success as hundreds within and without Inglewood rallied behind the campaign.
Wonder is globally recognized not solely as a musical innovator and icon. He is also lauded as a humanitarian, social activist and businessperson. Wonder’s Inglewood based radio station, KJLH, has been a major supporter of community initiatives, activities, events and programs that have richly contributed to the uplift of the underserved in Inglewood and communities throughout Los Angeles and the nation.

Wonder was honored with the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama. He was a driving force behind the national holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“Wonder’s musical and community support contributions are towering,” Hutchinson says, “an honorary street designation for him would be the crowning recognition of his universal contributions. A street in his honor would give Inglewood another shining beacon of accomplishment and a source of pride for the community. It would also bestow on Stevie a much-deserved honor while he is still active and continuing to enrich the social and cultural life of Inglewood.”
