Yeah, we put the word “gospel” in quotes ’cause this one here is a different kind of gospel. Yes, it is, dear brothas and sistas. You wouldn’t be all that wrong if you called it “club gospel” ‘which is what it seems like to us.
That’s ’cause it’s got that kind of vibe and message. Oh yeah, did we say it’s going viral on social media?
Alright, here’s the deal. According to LoveBScott, it’s called “Drop it Low for Jesus” (watch it above) and it’s by RWKSY (Real Women Know Something, Y’all). Needless to say, it’s is creating a buzz and it’s got folks debating, no, arguing, over just what is and isn’t gospel these days. Lord have mercy! This is church music? Umm, er, to some people, apparently it is.
The bottom line is “Drop it Low for Jesus” is from Sherman’s Showcase, on IFC. And just WHAT is a “Sherman’s Showcase” you might be wondering? It’s a sketch show that travels through time via music and clips drawn from the forty-year library of a legendary (fictional) musical variety show. Inspired by shows like “Solid Gold”, “Soul Train” and “Laugh-In.”
