*Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has hinted that “Black Panther 2” will soon be close to kicking off production.

Feige dished with BET recently about the rumor that Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger character would be returning in the next film.

“Pure rumor,” Feige said, but he did reveal that “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler is in the beginning stages of writing the script for the sequel.

“The honest answer to [Killmonger] is that is pure rumor and speculation, because Mr. Coogler is just only in recent weeks sitting down at his keyboard and beginning to outline the movie. It’s early, so nothing is set yet in any way that far, because Mr. Coogler is sitting down and will share it with Nate Moore and myself in coming weeks.”

“Black Panther,” which starred Chadwick Boseman as the titular hero, grossed $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Although Feige claims to be unaware of what Coogler has in store for BP2, he revealed back in 2018 that Marvel was exploring where the sequel could go even while working on the first film, saying, “We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”

“One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a part one and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a part two,” Feige said. “There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first ‘Black Panther.’ We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”

Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright are expected to return for the sequel, which has no official release date.
