*As we previously reported, Valencia Love is the close friend of R. Kelly who posted his $100,000 bail on Monday, days after the singer was arrested on sexual abuse charges.

According to the Daily Mail, Love owns a number of restaurants in Chicago, but when Kelly critics learned she also owns a childcare facility, Lord and Child Christian Day Care, folks across social media had much to say about it.

Twitter user wrote: “I’m disgusted at the fact that someone who works in childcare paid R. Kelly’s bail. I hope every parent pulls their child from her day care”.

Another added: “Being raised by a mom who owned a day care & raised in a family of aunts & cousins who worked in childcare & healthcare for the disabled hearing that a daycare owner helped bail out R. Kelly really makes me sick to my stomach.”

Now, the 47-year-old business woman has defended her decision to support the embattled singer during an interview with Chicago’s Fox32 reporter Tia A. Ewing.

As reported by Complex, Love believes Kelly is innocent, but she wouldn’t confirm whether the cash that was put up for the singer’s bail was hers or his.

There is some speculation that Kelly’s attorneys are playing up this “he’s broke” angle as to avoid paying out his alleged victims later on.

“I’m not going to say it was my money or [Kelly’s] and he’s not broke,” Love said. “[…] He’s my friend and I knew he needed help.”

The woman claims R. Kelly had planned to post bond by Thursday, so — “He was going to get out regardless,” she added. “I just went out there to help my friend.”

Kelly has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Love believes his critics are being too quick to judge him.

“I wasn’t there, you wasn’t there. Give him the chance and allow him to prove his innocence,” Love told Ewing. “He’s not a monster, he’s not […] He’s only been a gentleman to me.”

She continued: “Let him have his chance in court to prove if he’s innocent or guilty. As a friend if he says he’s innocent, I can only believe that he is innocent.”

While Love says she doesn’t support abuse of women and underage girls, she does question why authorities haven’t put as much effort into pursuing other sexual abuse cases (such as within the church).

“Look at all these priest, why isn’t anyone going after them,” she asked. “[…] The prosecutors and attorney general need to be prosecuting the priest that were sleeping with 5- and 6-year-old children.”

The notes from Love’s conversation with Ewing were posted on Twitter. You can read her statements via the embed above.

R. Kelly’s next court date is March 22.
