*A post office named “Marvin Gaye?” Oh yeah, why not?

Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) introduced legislation to designate the post office located at 4040 West Washington Boulevard (Los Angeles) in honor of late great singer/performer.

“Marvin Gaye’s music has transcended generations and gave 70s and 80s a sound,” said Rep. Bass. “I’m proud to have introduced this resolution honoring Marvin Gaye and the defining mark he left on not only the greater Los Angeles area, but the country.”

Marvin Gaye spent the later years of his life in Los Angeles and his family continues to live near the post office to be named in his honor.

“Thanking Congressmember Karen Bass and the US Post Office located at 4040 W. Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, What a phenomenal thing to have happen for my Brother Marvin Gaye, to have this Post Office or any Post Office named in his honor is beyond words… We thank you so very much, this is something that will live on in our hearts and in his memory forever.” – Respectfully, Zeola Gaye (Marvin Gaye’s sister).

“On behalf of Project Islamic Hope, and a coalition of community residents and leaders who helped our group spearhead this effort. We commend Congressmember Bass for making our dream a reality. We’re hopeful that with the future dedication of the Marvin Gaye Post office, we can continue to move forward with the attempt to have a Marvin Gaye U.S. Postal stamp as well. Marvin Gaye was one of the greatest musical artists in history. His musical legacy just as the Marvin Gaye Post office will live on forever,” stated activist Najee Ali, CEO Project Islamic Hope.
