*The most fun part of seeing “Wolf Man” was that it was on Wolf Moon (the full moon in January) night. If you let your imagination run wild, it can become the ultimate fright night.
In the case of “Wolf Man,” directed by Leigh Whannell (“The Invisible Man”), tension and scares build as a San Francisco family set out on a terrifying journey.
Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, who inherits his remote childhood home after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered journalist wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner)fraying, Blake persuades her to take a break from the city and visit the property with their daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth).
On their way to Blake’s Oregon farmhouse in the dead of the night, they are attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter.
Interestingly, Whannell chose Oregon as Wolf Man’s place of action. Oregon is where one of TV’s best series, “Grimm,” took place. “Grimm” certainly had its share of werewolves.

As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable. Suffice it to say, that Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger outside. What makes the film work is that it’s not a typical werewolf movie.
When Blake realizes he was scratched by a creature on the road, his ensuing condition is called an infection. The suspense and building anxiety make up for any traditional takes on werewolves.
When Blumhouse approached Whannell about reimagining the “Wolf Man” for a new generation, he was intrigued. Taking it in a completely different direction, Whannell and fellow screenwriter Corbett Tuck developed the script.
The story evolved into the tale of Blake Lovell, struggling with a turbulent past. The broken product of a survivalist father, Blake, thought he had put a cruel childhood to rest. Tortured by long-buried secrets that threaten his family, he is ready to face his past by confronting his demons.
