*Celibacy can bring numerous benefits, from promoting emotional clarity and personal growth to strengthening focus and fostering deeper non-physical connections. Rapper and iconic MC Redman recently shared his transformative experience with celibacy, revealing that for the past two-and-a-half years, he has abstained from sex and smoking—a decision he describes as “the best thing [he] could have done.”

In a heartfelt interview with Ambrosia For Heads, Redman explained that his choice was motivated by a difficult period, including a breakup and a grueling seven-year divorce.

“My girl and I broke up maybe three, four years ago. I was going through such a sh*t divorce that played a role in why it took so long to drop Muddy Waters [Too]. I had so much on my plate,” he shared, Vibe reports.

He embraced solitude as a means of healing and self-discovery during this challenging period.

“I actually fasted for two and a half years—no f**king, no smoking. It was the best thing I could have done in my life,” the hip-hop star said. “It cleared out so much distraction. My reception is much clearer now. Having no sex is nothing to me now because it was all feeding the flesh.”

Redman added, “Believe me, I wanted to. I was fighting it, I was sweating,” he admitted. “I was in my house going crazy ’cause I live alone. I was constantly talking to myself—me and God, just back and forth. But I made it, and it was the best thing I could have done.”

The Newark, NJ native credited his celibacy journey, combined with the emotional benefits of fasting, for helping him gain a clearer understanding of his priorities.

“Once I did that, I was able to control how I moved, what I like, what is not good for me,” he explained.
