*Wesley Snipes’ cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine” marked a very pleasant note in the surprise-filled Marvel release as well as a Guinness record-setting milestone in his history with his popular character Blade.
According to The Jasmine Brand, Snipes’ appearance as The Daywalker broke the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character. The actor’s return to form as Blade comes 25 years and 340 days after he first played the vampire hunter in 1998’s “Blade.”
With this record, Snipes moves past “Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman’s record for portraying Wolverine since donning the claws in “X-Men” in 2000.
In addition to surpassing Jackman’s record, the “New Jack City” alum entered the Guinness Book for the second time setting a record for the longest gap between appearances as a Marvel character.
The last time Snipes’ played Blade was in the 2004 film “Blade: Trinity.” From bringing the character back for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” he moved forward past Alfred Molina’s 17-year gap as Doctor Octopus between “Spider-Man 2” from 2004 and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021.
Chronicling Snipes’ road back to Blade, The Jasmine Brand took note of an interview the entertainer did in which he revealed it was Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds who reached out to him to reprise the role for his third outing as the Merc with a Mouth.
“I thought it didn’t make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, ‘Okay, I got to take this call. Let’s see what this is about,’” Snipes shared with Entertainment Weekly “… He told me the idea… They said ‘yes’ and ‘it’s a go.’ ‘If you’re in, we’re in.’ Here we are.”
With “Deadpool & Wolverine, Snipes joins a slew of actors who brought their respective Marvel characters back for an encore. The feature, which has pulled in $824 million globally after two weekends in theaters, is the second-highest-grossing movie of 2024 behind “Inside Out 2” ($1.555 billion) and is expected to enter the $1 billion territory in the coming days.
