*Kobe Bryant fans are upset with Vanessa Bryant’s reaction to the passing of his father, Joe Bryant.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Kobe’s father passed away at the age of 69. Vanessa released a statement on her Instagram story.
“Sending our condolences upon hearing the news of my father in law’s passing. We hoped things would’ve been different,” Bryant wrote. “Although the times we spent together were few, he was always sweet and nice to be around. Kobe loved him very much. Our prayers go out to family.”
Her statement is being heavily criticized online. In the comments section on DJ Akademiks’ Instagram page, one person called it “the wackiest condolences I’ve ever seen.”
The Instagram user added, “Vanessa you were better off not saying nothing!”
Another person commented, “She said prayers go out to family!! SMH, Those your kids grandpa!! He is your family!! I see why he didn’t want Kobe marrying her!!”
“Kobe’s parents had to sell Kobe’s ring just to survive.. Venessa inherited millions from Kobe and never threw them a buck,” wrote another critic.
Many commenters had similar sentiments, with one person noting, “…she hated his parents,” while another wrote, “Her condolences sounded fake to me.”
Kobe’s parents were apprehensive about his marriage to Vanessa, which led to a period of estrangement during which Joe and his wife Pamela did not attend Kobe and Vanessa’s wedding. Over time, Kobe’s relationship with his parents reportedly improved.
In 2020, Kobe and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, tragically died in a helicopter crash in Los Angeles County. The NBA star was 41.
