*Toni Braxton is still grappling with the loss of her sister Traci, over two years after her passing at age 50.

In an exclusive preview of “The Braxtons” series premiere, the R&B superstar said she felt helpless upon hearing her sister’s diagnosis of esophageal cancer. At the time, Toni was also managing her health issues with the autoimmune disorder lupus.

“When Traci got diagnosed, it didn’t seem real at all,” she shared, PEOPLE reports. “It still doesn’t.”

“For me, family is the most important thing in my life,” Toni continued. “I spent my whole life caring for and protecting my sisters, but this was different because there’s nothing I could do. I felt so helpless, like I couldn’t do anything to save her.”

Toni said she had a hard time processing Traci’s illness “because I was a sick one, not Traci,” she said, noting that Traci’s diagnosis was “hard for me to digest.”
