*“The pressures around motherhood and fertility,” said stand-up comedian Daheli Hall about what her comedy show “Spadura” discusses. “I started the show right after the (Covid) pandemic.”
Daheli has taken her “Spadura” show on the road from San Francisco and Los Angeles to New York and Washington DC, to Chicago, Atlanta and Miami, and all in between. Around the time of our interview, she had just presented “Spadura” at the Lyrics Theatre in Miami, before tapping the live Los Angeles show.
“It was a live tapping for the special,” the Florida native pointed out to me when I mentioned I missed the show in Los Angeles.
I asked her what “Spadura” meant and she said with a little laugh, “It’s a teaser you have to come to find out!”
“It’s a unique name…I give the meaning in Spadura,” Daheli added. “It’s a love story.”
The story highlights the baby industry complexities, and she said it’s semi-biographical of her fertility journey. Navigating through the “I want a baby” stage in life
“I wanted to make the show open-ended,” Hall said. “Show all the ups and downs.”
“I am also a (WGA) writer and (SAG-AFTRA) actress. Between the pandemic and the strike, yes, the industry has been affected,” Daheli explained when I asked. “As an artist we just continue to make art.”
Hall’s credits include Netflix’s “Dear White People” and Fox’s “Mad-TV” (13 seasons). She has written for CBS and VH1. Daheli Hall also has award-winning shorts such as her HBO short “The Memo.” www.Daheli.info
