*Netflix has announced the release date for the anticipated sequel of “The Platform.”
The original film is a 2019 Spanish science-fiction, psychological thriller starring Iván Massagué, Antonia San Juan, Zorion Eguileor, Emilio Buale Coka, and Alexandra Masangkay. Per ThisIsBarry.com, “the film is based in a vertical prison where food is lowered top to bottom, and each subsequent level eats the leftovers of the floor above.”
Here’s the official synopsis, per Rotton Tomatoes, “In the future, prisoners housed in vertical cells watch as inmates in the upper cells are fed while those below starve.”
“The Platform” was released to huge success in 2019, with nearly 83 million views, according to THR.
Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, “The Platform 2″ stars Milena Smit (The Snow Girl), Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones) and Óscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series).
“As a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial method to fight the brutal feeding system,” the plot synopsis reads, per THR. “But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?”
The movie is slated for release on October 4, 2024.
