*Starz is set to launch its new twisted drama series “Sweetpea” starring Ella Purnell, and she wants to leave the audience ‘conflicted.’
The show surrounds Rhiannon Lewis, an unassuming and quiet young woman who is pushed to her limits.
When her timidity runs out, she develops a vengeful taste for murder. Purnell (“Yellowjackets,” “Sweetbitter,” “Arcane”), brings relatability to this character and carries it out through a dark, yet comedic lens.
During EUR’s conversation with the show’s star and executive producer, she revealed that she became extremely familiar with her character.
Purnell described her love and appreciation for the series’ writer/director, Ella Jones, and revealed she’s probably the only one who knows the character as well as she does.
“We sat in those rooms with everybody and we figured out every detail. What does Rhiannon look like? What’s her hair like? What shampoo does she use? What does her room look like?”
Purnell went on to explain that they filled in all the blanks in Rhiannon’s life “to the point where I’m pretty sure we could communicate telepathically if we had to.”
When asked what she wants her audience to feel when watching the show, the “Fallout” actress said, “I want them to be conflicted.” She continued, “I want them to be confused. I want them to relate to Rhiannon, to her emotions, but not to her actions.”
“Sweetpea” premieres Thursday, October 10 at midnight on the STARZ app.
The series will debut on STARZ at 8pm ET/PT in the U.S. and on Friday, October 11 at 10pm ET/PT in Canada.
The following week, “Sweetpea” will move to Fridays for the remainder of the season.
