*Bronny James’ status is pro, and his NBA arrival is official. While some envision SportsCenter highlights with him and his iconic father causing damage together as a unified part of the Los Angeles Lakers, Craig Carton is bringing the honeymoon to an end.
For the sports analyst, it’s not Bronny’s presence that’s the problem. It’s the way things went down to bring the athlete to the pros.
The Cold Wire notes that while Bronny should have collected a two-way contract after he was taken with the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, he got a four-year deal worth almost $8 million, with more than half of that guaranteed.
And that, sports fans, is why Carton is not on board with the Lakers’ decision to bring LeBron’s son into the franchise. A situation the sports analyst feels just wasn’t right.
On his “The Carton Show,” the radio fixture wasn’t shy when laying out claims about Bronny’s contract not being warranted or needed.
To hear Carton tell it, the Lakers’ move was an example of rubbing salt in the wounds of “all the other second-round picks who didn’t get this kind of privilege,” Cold Wire noted, adding that “this might not be a good look for the Lakers as an organization.”
“For years, people have talked about LeBron and Rich Paul holding the Lakers hostage, and that Rob Pelinka has no actual power here, and while we’re definitely not saying that’s the case, this doesn’t help turn that narrative around.,” stated Cold Wire. “Hopefully, Bronny will prove all the critics wrong. “
Stay tuned. From the looks of it, things are just getting started.
