*An insider claims that a well-known award organization has been manipulating its nominations to generate buzz and maintain balance, though they assert that the actual award winners remain untampered.
According to the source, this practice influenced one of the recent country music nominees…namely Shaboozey. They allege that the decision was predetermined, with the organization viewing the artist as a “one-hit wonder,” ensuring he wouldn’t take home the award despite being nominated.
Shaboozey’s hit track “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has become the longest-running No. 1 song of the year on the Billboard Hot 100. He also received nominations for New Artist and Song of the Year at the Country Music Awards. However, at the 58th CMA Awards last Thursday, Shaboozey left empty-handed.
He lost the Best New Artist award to Megan Moroney and the Best Song category to Chris Stapleton for his song “White Horse.” Cody Johnson won album of the year and his producer Trent Willmon mocked Shaboozey as they accepted the trophy. “I got to tell you, this is for this cowboy who’s been kicking Shaboozey for a lot of years,” he said, using the country music star’s name instead of the word “booty.”
Shaboozey clapped back after Johnson made him the butt of a joke. As PEOPLE reports, he posted a photo of himself smiling and shrugging to X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Ain’t nobody kicking me!”
CMAs have a race issue. The #CMAAwards are racist. Watch the racism unfold from last night CMAs. Shaboozey deserves better & he released the biggest country song of the year 18 weeks at number one on Billboard hot 100 charts. Elsewhere during the ceremony, while discussing the success of “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” co-hosts Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning also used the 29-year-old Grammy-nominated singer’s name in jokes on stage. Bryan referred to the song as “a sha-doozey” and added, “His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shaboozey, must be so proud” that the single had become an overnight hit.
Manning also exclaimed “Holy Shaboozey!” to transition between acts as the awards show progressed.
A viral post on X also said, “The fact that Shaboozey didn’t win a single Country Music Award despite having the #1 country song for like 3 months straight is proof that they don’t want somebody Black to be the face of country music.”

Rolling Stone’s Larisha Paul wrote, “Willmon’s unprovoked jab at the artist highlights the unfortunate normalization of Black culture being diluted to make it more accessible to people who won’t make a conscious effort to learn anything about it.”
Paul continued, “[Shaboozey] walked in a winner. And the poorly written remarks that the hosts read off of a teleprompter don’t change that. But his first year at the show should have opened the door for him to be welcomed. Instead, it was arguably slammed in his face.”
