*Henry Louis Gates Jr. will return as host of PBS’s “Finding Your Roots” for its eleventh season set to air on January 7, 2025.
The acclaimed series continues to utilize cutting-edge DNA technology and genealogical research to help celebrities learn about their family histories, answer long-standing questions, uncover mysteries, and reveal unknown ancestors, often leading to transformative insights.
According to Pink Villa, this season will feature Joy Behar, Kristen Bell, Laurence Fishburne, Debra Messing, Michael Imperioli, Melanie Lynskey, Natalie Morales, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lea Salonga, Amanda Seyfried, Dax Shepard, Sharon Stone, Chrissy Teigen, celebrity chefs José Andrés and Sean Sherman, novelist Amy Tan, poet Rita Dove, historian Lonnie Bunch, and singer Rubén Blades.
Season Ten featured actors Valerie Bertinelli (“One Day at a Time”), Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple”), LeVar Burton (“Star Trek”), Michael Douglas (“Wall Street”), Lena Dunham (“Girls”), Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”), Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”), Ed O’Neill (“Modern Family”), Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”), Anthony Ramos (“In the Heights”), Wes Studi (“The Last of the Mohicans”), Jesse Williams (“Grey’s Anatomy”); comedian Iliza Shlesinger; musicians Ciara, Sammy Hagar, Alanis Morissette and Dionne Warwick; and journalist Sunny Hostin.
“The tenth season of Finding Your Roots is not only a milestone for the show. It signifies the bond we share with PBS and our viewers to tell stories that explore the fullness and diversity of humanity through the personal tales of our guests and their ancestors,” said Gates previously. “The family trees we unearth this season are especially fascinating and full of lessons and surprises from one generation to the next. It is an enormous privilege for all of us who work on the show to bring it to public television. After all these years, I continue to be amazed by the discoveries we make that in various ways illuminate how connected we truly are.”
In the upcoming eleventh season of “Finding Your Roots,” actress Sharon Stone will learn she descends from two French kings, while Laurence Fishburne will uncover details about his biological father,” per Pink Villa.
Meanwhile, Gates is also involved in a new documentary, “Great Migrations: A People on the Move,” set to air on PBS on January 28, 2025.
“Migration is not unique to any single ethnicity or group, but it is a deeply profound aspect of the modern African American experience simply because black people were denied movement for so long,” according to the synopsis. “This series will tell the story of African American movement over the 20th and 21st centuries and how it has shaped the nation.”
