*The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) presents the 30th annual Short Film Festival this weekend, Nov. 15th-17th at the Regal LA Live Theater (Downtown Los Angeles) at 1000 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles 90015.
The pre-festival youth event is on Thursday, November 14th, where over 500 students will gather in the theater to see selected films and listen to numerous entertainment professionals.
Filmmakers are the cornerstone of BHERC, and educating youth has become the true backbone.
This year’s opening night ceremony celebrates the achievements of actress, producer, and writer, Deborah Pratt; film key art designer, Art Sims; journalist and PACE News founder, Dr. Gloria Zuurveen; photojournalist, D. Stevens; dancer and actress, Gina Lem-you Davis; showrunner and producer, Janine Sherman Barrois; and film animation artist, Lyndon J. Barrois. Their work continues to inspire, uplift, and transform the minds of those around them.
Saturday and Sunday will be filled with various blocks of magnificent pieces; from a myriad of genres centered around powerful themes such as love, loss, family, history, and so much more. This year’s class of 60+ filmmakers has infused great passion, depth, and imagination into their creative process.
In addition to these blocks of films, there will be three feature screenings. Veils: Requiem for Trayvon, follows the all-too-familiar story of a young boy murdered by a “neighborhood watchman” and the reverberations of his mother’s grief. Brief Tender Light is a documentary feature tracking the nuanced journeys of three African engineering students as they forge their ways through Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tolliver’s Barbershop: a documentary feature about an incomparable presence in Los Angeles, Lawrence Tolliver, the legacy of his barbershop and its glorious effect on the community at large.
We look forward to experiencing these three incredible works, alongside you.
