*Prosecutors have denied accusations from Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team that government leaks led to the release of a 2016 surveillance video showing him violently beating ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
As E! News reports, in response to Combs’ recent filing, prosecutors submitted a motion clarifying that the U.S. government “ultimately obtained the Intercontinental Video at the same time as the general public on May 17, 2024, when CNN publicly released the footage.”
They also allege that Combs “refuses to acknowledge that multiple individuals other than Government agents—including some of his own employees—may have had access to the Intercontinental video.”
Combs’ legal team wrote in their Oct. 9 motion that it “seems entirely reasonable that the video was leaked by one or more DHS agents.”
The “unlawful government leaks,” the lawyers added, have “led to damaging, highly prejudicial pretrial publicity that can only taint the jury pool and deprive Mr. Combs of his right to a fair trial.” They are calling for a “full suppression of the videotape.”
As we reported earlier, the disturbing video shows Puff Daddy, wearing only a towel, chasing Cassie down a hallway to the elevator bank at a hotel in Los Angeles. He then grabs her by the neck, slams her to the ground, and kicks her.
Cassie filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the music producer late last year, ultimately settling out of court. The lawsuit encouraged more victims to come forward about their violent encounters with Diddy, though he has declared his innocence regarding all allegations.
In his video response to the CNN clip, the hip-hop producer said, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life. Sometimes you gotta do that. I was f*cked up,” Diddy explained in the now-deleted clip.
“I mean, I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable,” he added. “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”
According to CNN, Diddy paid the hotel $50,000 for the hallway security footage at the time of the attack.
Diddy is currently being held in federal custody in Brooklyn after being indicted in September on three criminal charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations. If convicted, Combs faces up to life in prison. His trial begins in May 2025.
