*Pharrell Williams stayed composed while addressing an animal rights protester who interrupted the premiere of his new movie at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
During his Tuesday night appearance to discuss his LEGO-animated biopic “Piece By Piece,” a woman took the stage holding a sign that said, “Pharrell: Stop Supporting Killing Animals for Fashion” with the PETA logo.
Pharrell approached the woman to speak with her directly as she chanted over and over again, but security intervened and escorted her off the stage.
The musician politely said to the woman, “You’re right. You’re right. God Bless You.”
Pharrell addressed the incident further, telling the audience, “Rome wasn’t built in a day, and sometimes, when you have plans to change things in situations, you have to get into a position of power and influence where you can change people’s minds and help progression,” Pharrell stated.
“That’s not necessarily the way to do it. And sitting in my position when I have conversations on behalf of organizations like that, unbeknownst to them…we’re actually working on that. And if she would’ve just asked me, I would have told her, but instead, she wanted to repeat herself,” he said of the protestor.
Pharrell serves as the Creative Menswear Director for Louis Vuitton, and the French brand is associated with the use of animal skins. According to cassiuslife.com, the website features a $26,200 monogrammed mink fur hoodie, and a crocodile Speedy bag was released ahead of the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Williams‘ animated biopic “Piece By Piece” from Focus Features uses LEGO animation to tell the story of his life.
Directed by Morgan Neville, the film explores the career-defining moments of the Grammy winner. Pharrell previously posted about the project on social media, saying: “Who would’ve thought that playing with Legos as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It’s proof that anyone else can do it too… #PieceByPiece.”
“I don’t know what I’m more impressed by–how vulnerable and how open I was willing to be with him or what he did with the story,” Williams told Complex in a new interview about working with Neville..
“One, I was just honored that he said yes. And then I hit him with a crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy thing that would’ve probably made anybody else just go, ‘What? No, of course not.’ But he was like, ‘Yeah.’ And that was to tell the story in LEGO. He got it. He instantly got it. And this has been nothing but magical, this whole entire experience.”
