*A tragic accident occurred in Mississippi when 41-year-old contractor Darrell Sheriff died after being buried by a load of hot asphalt.
The incident happened at AJ Materials on McDowell Road, where Sheriff was picking up asphalt. Daily Mail reports that his truck malfunctioned as he attempted to repair the hydraulic line underneath, and the back gate unexpectedly opened, releasing the hot material on top of him. Despite efforts from witnesses to rescue him, Sheriff’s injuries were too severe and he died at the scene.
“There was some individuals on scene that tried to help him,” Police Chief Joseph Wade said in a press conference.
“They said he tried to fight to make it through those injuries, but they were just too enormous for him to survive,” he added.
“It’s something that you do not want to see,” Wade said.

“It appeared to be some type of malfunction with his dump truck,” Wade explained to reporters.
Jackson Police Chief reported that some family members were present at the scene and were left deeply traumatized by the fatal incident.
“With the holidays coming up, to lose this gentleman, who was out here just trying to make a living,” Wade shared. “They’re really hurt, but we’re going to be here to support them and uplift them in prayer.”
Sheriff’s death is being treated as an accident but the police department is conducting a thorough investigation.
