*What’s old is new again. Although it never left among fans, Mint Condition’s 1991 hit, “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes),” has found new life and a few other things on TikTok.
According to Twin Cities, the tune recently went viral on social media, with music fans rediscovering their love for it.
As a result, “Pretty Brown Eyes,” has been a part of several TikTok trends, including one trend that found it soundtracking users who share old photos of their parents and describing them as heartbreakers, using the song’s hook “breaking my heart.”
In addition to the old parents’ photos, users have been using “Pretty Brown Eyes” to describe situations that would break their hearts. The kicker is the situations that often have a funny twist.
Citing examples Twin Cities highlighted a Minnesota TikTok user named Madden (@m444dden) who posted a TikTok to poke fun at his short friends, using the song to describe how it would break his heart to say goodbye because “Santa needs his elves soon.”

Weighing in on the situation, Mint Condition co-founder and lead singer Stokley Williams voiced how amazing it is to see how technology and social media helped provide a new wind in his classic song’s sails.
“It’s still a lot of people’s favorite,” Williams told Twin Cities. “Now I see the kids of people who discovered it back in the day, and I’ll go and perform the song, and they’ll hear certain parts of it.”
Released on Nov. 11, 1991, “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes),” is the second single from Mint Condition’s debut album “Meant to Be Mint.” The tune, which explores themes of love, honesty, and relationship communication, is the band’s biggest hit to date, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992.
With fans new and old supporting “Pretty Brown Eyes” in its viral state on social media, the moment is not lost on Williams, who is grateful for the love it has received in recent months.
“I don’t take it for granted. There’s so much happening out here, so to have somebody’s time, that’s the most valuable thing,” the entertainer expressed. “Just continue to dig [into the music]. It’s a lot deeper than you think.”
