*Lyft and Uber are offering discounted rides on Election Day, November 5, to help people get to the polls.
Lyft is offering 50% off rides (up to $10) to polling locations using the code VOTE24. The deal applies to bikes and scooters. According to PEOPLE, the popular ride-sharing app aims to target young voters this election season and has partnered with NAACP and When We All Vote to promote voter education.
“Lyft believes transportation access should never be a barrier for any citizen seeking to vote,” Lyft Chief Policy Officer Jerry Golden said in a news release. “Our Voting Access Program reflects our commitment to being a force for good, and we’re proud to encourage riders and drivers to exercise their fundamental right to vote, regardless of income, zip code, or political affiliation.”
Uber riders can use a “Go Vote” button in the app to arrange their ride to their polling place. The discount is available from 4 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Election Day. Uber is also offering 25% off UberEats orders on election night.
“At Uber, we believe transportation shouldn’t be a barrier for any eligible citizen to vote,” the company stated in a news release. “So with Election Day just around the corner, we’re here to make it as effortless as possible as you begin to make your plan to vote.”
“Every American citizen should be able to exercise their right to vote without worrying about the cost or difficulty of getting to the polls,” said David Risher, Lyft CEO, in a press release.
Per Uber’s release: When you tap the tile, you’ll be able to:
- Find your polling place: Simply follow the prompts to enter your home address, which will locate your polling location.* From there, you’ll be prompted to request a ride to go vote and your polling place will be automatically added as the destination.
- Take a discounted ride to vote: We’re offering riders in the U.S. 50% off rides to their polling place (up to $10) when they use our new ‘Go Vote’ tile to book a ride.**
- Enjoy Election Night fuel: We know you’ll be up late watching as results trickle in. That’s why we’re offering folks across the country 25% off their orders (up to $15, $25 min order).***
- Celebrate with American Flag cars: To remind everyone to cast their votes, and celebrate those who have, we’re wrapping all UberX icons in the American flag – no matter where you’re riding.
In the 2024 presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are on the Democratic ticket, while the Republican contenders are former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.
