*Today, December 2, 2024, is the day that actress and advocate Kerry Washington will have the honor of receiving the 2,796th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognizing her immense contribution to the world of television and film.

The ceremony, set to take place at 11:30 AM PT at 6258 Hollywood Boulevard in front of The W Hollywood Hotel, will feature a host of esteemed guest speakers, including celebrated filmmaker Tyler Perry and prolific writer Shonda Rhimes, along with emcee Steve Nissen, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony will be streamed live via the player below.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which administers the iconic Walk of Fame, has been holding star ceremonies for decades, welcoming millions of visitors to celebrate the achievements of artists and entertainers from around the world. Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremonies, expressed her excitement about honoring Washington.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is honored to welcome actress Kerry Washington to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her extraordinary talent and dedication to her craft have not only made her a beloved actress but also an inspiration to many,” stated  Martinez. “Honoring her with this special award is a celebration of her remarkable contribution to the world of entertainment.”

Kerry Washington, a native of The Bronx, New York, is an Emmy-winning producer and a critically acclaimed actor, known for her groundbreaking role as Olivia Pope in the hit ABC drama Scandal. As the first Black woman since 1974 to headline a network TV drama, Washington has broken barriers and paved the way for future generations of actors. Over her career, she has earned multiple award nominations, including two Emmy nods and a Golden Globe nomination, and has garnered acclaim for her performances in films like Django Unchained, Ray, and The Prom.

Beyond her acting accolades, Washington has made significant strides in the industry as a producer. She founded her production company, Simpson Street, in 2016 and has produced an impressive array of projects, including HBO’s Confirmation, Netflix’s adaptation of American Son, and the Emmy-winning Little Fires Everywhere.

Most recently, she has taken on a dual role as an actress and executive producer in Tyler Perry’s upcoming film The Six Triple Eight, which focuses on the first all-Black Women’s Army Corps unit serving overseas during World War II. Scheduled for release on Netflix on December 20, 2024, Washington continues to champion stories that resonate with diverse audiences.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Washington is deeply committed to social advocacy. She has been recognized for her work in pushing for equity and justice, earning honors such as TIME Magazine’s 2022 Women of the Year and the NAACP President’s Award. Her latest endeavor includes partnering with LAUSD to launch The Roybal School of Film and Television Production, aimed at creating transformative opportunities for underserved communities.
