*In the new Apple TV+ series “Time Bandits,” viewers are taken on a wild, unpredictable adventure through time and space, following a group of eccentric thieves led by 11-year-old history enthusiast Kevin, portrayed by Kal-El Tuck.
Created by Jemaine Clement (“Flight of the Conchords”), Iain Morris (“The Inbetweeners”), and Taika Waititi (“Reservation Dogs”), and produced for Apple TV+ by Paramount Television Studios, the live-action television series is based on the popular 1981 film directed by Terry Gilliam and stars Lisa Kudrow (“The Comeback”), Tadhg Murphy (“Conversations With Friends”), Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (“You Don’t Know Me”), Rune Temte (“Eddie the Eagle”), Charlyne Yi (“Knocked Up”), Rachel House (“Heartbreak High”), Kiera Thompson (“Martyrs Lane”), James Dryden (“Ready Player One”), Felicity Ward (“The Office” Australia), Francesca Mills (“Harlots”) and Imaan Hadchiti (“Thor: Love and Thunder”), per the news release.
“I think it was amazing to go to places that no one had ever gone,” Tuck told EUR exclusively about navigating the historical worlds in the series.
In “Time Bandits,” viewers journey through history to witness the creation of Stonehenge, see the Trojan Horse in action, escape dinosaurs in the prehistoric age, wreak havoc in medieval times, and experience the Ice Age, ancient civilizations, and the Harlem Renaissance.
“I think it’s a great thing that I could experience that,” Tuck added.
When it comes to the dynamic between the bandits, Temte said the cast had “the freedom to develop our relationships” and “the characters” during “filming and being put in all these different situations.”
“It was just a joy to develop together,” he added.
“I think going into the Middle Ages was really fun,” Temte continued. “The set was fantastic and some of the guest actors there [were] amazing,” he explained.
“There was so much comedy… even though it was very dark and very dirty, but I totally enjoyed that. It was such fun to be in the Middle Ages, such a long way from the clean everyday life we have today.”
Tuck said his favorite time period was Harlem, New York.
“The fashion was amazing. I really liked the culture… the new characters were fun to act with. I think the whole episode was really good, I had a fun time.”
Consisting of 10 action-packed episodes, “Time Bandits” premiered July 24, taking audiences on an unforgettable ride that explores the power of friendship, loyalty, and courage.
The fantasy series is full of charm and perfect for those who love a mix of historical hijinks, thrilling quests, and unexpected twists, making it a must-watch for families.
All episodes are available to stream on exclusivity on Apple TV+.
Tuck believes that fans of the original 80s movie will find the series offers more of the same magic they loved growing up.
“It’s not the same, but they get to have the essence of it,” he said, adding, “The comedy is so funny and you’ll learn a thing or two.”
