*The upcoming independent drama I’ll Be There” offers a poignant exploration of family, memory, and the power of reconciliation, premiering on Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, and other streaming platforms on November 15.

Produced by Buffalo 8, the film stars Jasmine Batchelor (“The Surrogate”), Ryan Cooper,  the hunky dead stripper in “Rough Night”, Dorien Wilson (“The Parkers”), Victoria Kelleher (“Why Women Kill”), and Celestina Harris (“Special Ops: Lioness”).

Directed by Andrew Shea and written by Cindy McCreery—both acclaimed professors at the University of Texas—the film follows Grace (Jasmine Batchelor), the youngest in an interracial blended family, who returns to Los Angeles to confront old wounds and face the legacy of her late brother AJ (Ryan Cooper) during the emotional days following Michael Jackson’s death.

“What drew me to the story when I first read it was how raw and real it was,” Shea shared with Radio/TV personality Jazmyn Summers for EURweb. “Based on real events, “I’ll Be There” is a heartfelt story about a young woman finally finding peace with her blended interracial family. I was also drawn to the deeply interior and dreamlike moments in the story, which become more frequent and surreal for Grace with each passing sleep-deprived day.”

At the heart of  “I’ll Be There” is Grace’s journey through complex family dynamics. Having distanced herself from her siblings and parents, she finds herself back in Los Angeles when AJ is diagnosed with cancer. During these tumultuous days, set poignantly against the backdrop of Michael Jackson’s passing, Grace and her family confront their memories, regrets, and misunderstandings.

“Setting the film against the backdrop of Michael Jackson’s death allowed us to explore how collective memories can impact personal journeys,” Shea explained. “It’s a story that will resonate with anyone who has ever been part of a family.”

For writer Cindy McCreery, the story’s themes of forgiveness and resilience struck a universal chord: “This film is a love letter to anyone who has faced the challenge of reconnecting with family. It’s about forgiveness, understanding, and the resilience of the human spirit.”

Grace’s story is brought to life by Jasmine Batchelor, who won the Best Actress award at the Santa Clarita International Film Festival for her portrayal. Reflecting on her role, Batchelor said, “Grace’s story is one of finding peace within herself. It’s a journey that I think many people can relate to, and I’m honored to bring her to life.”

Ryan Cooper, who many remember as the hot stripper in Rough Night,  plays AJ.  He describes his character as a powerful mix of “instigator and healer” within the family. This story taps into something universal,” Cooper said.

With powerful performances, an emotionally charged narrative, and its timely message about family, race, and forgiveness, “I’ll Be There“ promises to be a standout in independent cinema this year.
