*Death Row Records co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris is getting star-powered help to bring his story to the masses via Denzel Washington and Snoop Dogg.
Referencing a recent interview the label creator did with AllHipHop, Rolling Out reports the label head confirmed the “Gladiator II” star is already involved in one of the prospective projects lined up for Harry-O’s story.
While many movies about real-life figures get glamorized with glossed-over narratives, Harry-O is opting for a more realistic treatment by painting his story as more of a “cautionary tale.” After all, he has “been working on my story for a long time.”
Snoop’s involvement may not surprise people, considering his days as one of Death Row’s flagship artists in the ’90s, but Washington may be a different story. The pairing of the former “St. Elsewhere” fixture and Harry-O goes deep, with the music executive reportedly financing Washington’s first play on Broadway.
Fast forward 35 years after Death Row’s music-related heyday, and the duo comes full circle with Harry-O confirming Washington’s assistance.
According to Blanco.Tarantino.TV, Washington is set to direct a biopic on Harry-O. For Snoop, his path involves a behind-the-scenes role as producer of a comprehensive documentary on the Death Row Records co-founder.
Washington is no stranger to the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” lyricist as the entertainers shared time on the big screen in Washington’s classic 2001 corrupt cop drama “Training Day.”
Snoop played a wheelchair-bound drug hustler in the film, while Washington starred as Det. Alonzo Harris.
“Denzel’s always been a friend to me, like a brother,” Harry-O told AllHipHop while touching on how their business relationship doesn’t overshadow what their alliance is all about. “It’s not about business, it’s about friendship and faith.”
“We [are] just trying to figure out how we want to deliver it to the world. But that story is coming and I’ve just been blessed,” he continued. “I thank God for that to have people that feel that my story should be told. And we just trying to figure out should it be a series or which way it’s going to be because we got some pearls to drop.”
