*Actress Glenn Close revealed that colleagues warned her that director Lee Daniels was “crazy” before they teamed up for the first time on their new horror film, “The Deliverance.”
“For me, that’s a compliment,” the Academy Award nominee said in an interview with Radio Andy, TheWrap reports.
“A lot of times when people in this business say someone’s crazy it means they don’t suffer fools, and it means they have a vision and it doesn’t always go along with the crowd,” Close added before praising Daniels for creating an “inclusive environment on set.”
“It was one of the most inclusive, creative, challenging, fun experiences of my career,” she said in the YouTube clip above.
Netflix describes “The Deliverance” as a “genre-defying take on darkness, possession, and finding a higher power.”
The film is inspired by a true story and centers on Ebony Jackson (Andra Day), a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons, who moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. But when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children.
Inspired by a true story, “The Deliverance” also stars Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Mo’Nique.
The movie reimagines the events described by Latoya Ammons and the demonic experiences in her family’s Indiana home in 2011. Indianapolis Star detailed her story in a 2014 article.
“The Deliverance” opened in select theaters on August 16 and is now streaming on Netflix.
