*Superstar gymnast Gabby Thomas snapped a selfie with her boyfriend Spencer McManes after she won her first-ever Olympic gold medal.
According to reports, Thomas and McManes have been dating in 2022. They both appear to live in Austin and often feature each other on social media. McManes regularly posted about Thomas before making his Instagram private ahead of the Paris Olympics.
McManes, a former Yale University football player from Roswell, Georgia, founded an Austin-based kava brand called Kaviva, known for its kava-infused sparkling water. PEOPLE reports that he graduated from Harvard University in 2019.
“I left Boston and everything that I was comfortable with, to come train in Austin, TX at the end of 2019,” Thomas wrote in a September 2021 Instagram post after winning both bronze (200m) and silver (4X100m) in Tokyo Olympics.
“The training was more than I was used to, and the pressure was too. The pressure was a lot,” she added.
In May 2023, McManes attended Thomas’ graduation, where she received her undergraduate degree in neurobiology and global health at Harvard University.
“It just got another degree hotter!!!” she wrote in a graduation post featuring McManes on Instagram.
“I am SO happy to announce that I’ve completed my Masters in Public Health at the UT Health Science Center. I started this journey in 2020, and I can’t believe how much has changed since then,” Biles added.
McManes’ family has been supportive of the track and field star. His mom posted about their pride for being “Team Gabby.”
“For me, being surrounded by people that are uplifting and supportive and empowering really fuels me,” Thomas revealed during a recent NBC Sports interview amid the 2024 Paris Olympics. “I’ve always been surrounded by that kind of energy and that sort of support system.”
After winning her first gold medal in the women’s 200m final in August 2024, Thomas ran to her boyfriend and captured the moment with a selfie.
