*In 2021, Chelsea Shelton left her teaching job to become a stay-at-home mom and decided to earn extra income by making digital printables.
As Business Insider reported, this unexpected venture began in February 2022 when Shelton enrolled in a $214 e-printables course. The investment aimed to help her learn how to create and sell digital products on Etsy. Her success in the digital printables market came from listening to her customers’ needs and using market research to guide her product creation.
Instead of focusing on what she enjoyed making, she relied on tools like eRank to uncover high-demand, low-competition niches. For instance, her seasonal items are a hit, and she created a customizable softball fundraising form, based on her experience with sports fundraisers, which also performed well. Shelton’s unique style is characterized by playful, family-friendly designs and consistent themes throughout her products. She adds value by offering customizable templates for items like bingo cards and menus.
Chelsea runs her thriving business with minimal expenses, using tools like Canva and Creative Fabrica for her designs. She sells her products on platforms like Etsy and Teachers Pay Teachers, earning over $30,000. After the initial setup, her storefronts require little maintenance, enabling her to manage the business in just a few hours a week.
Her advice to others is: start small with free tools if needed, learn as you go, and focus on continuous improvement. Read more here.
