*Elon Musk’s AI system, Grok, has been used to create realistic deepfake videos of him and Donald Trump committing armed robbery.
Indy 100 reports that the AI studio The Dor Brothers produced a clip showing Musk robbing a convenience store, created using Grok, an AI chatbot developed by Musk’s company, xAI. The video, which also depicted Musk being arrested, sparked concerns about the increasing realism of deepfakes and the challenge of distinguishing them from real footage. Other similar clips featured Vice President Kamala Harris.
On social media, one person wrote, “So this is the terrifying part. No matter what side you’re on, even if there were real video evidence of people committing crimes, it can be dismissed as AI. This tech is getting better and better all the time. Lots of people will be easily fooled/manipulated.”
“AI has gotten so crazy! Who knows what’s real anymore,” someone wrote.
Another person added, “We’re about 1 model update away from totally believable deepfakes.”

Meanwhile, Musk’s platform X has responded to requests from several U.S. Secretaries of State by updating its Grok AI system to prevent the spread of misinformation about the 2024 presidential election, The Register reports. Now, when users search for election-related terms, Grok directs them to vote.gov for up-to-date information.
“We appreciate X’s action to improve their platform and hope they continue to make improvements that will ensure their users have access to accurate information from trusted sources in this critical election year,” Secretaries of State from Minnesota, Michigan, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Washington said in a recent press release. “Elections are a team effort, and we need and welcome any partners who are committed to ensuring free, fair, secure, and accurate elections.”
According to The Register, the issue arose when Grok falsely claimed that ballot deadlines in nine states, including those overseen by the five Secretaries of State, had passed after President Joe Biden left the race, allegedly preventing the Democratic Party from changing its candidate.
“The false information about ballot deadlines has been captured and shared repeatedly in multiple posts – reaching millions of people,” the Secretaries wrote in a letter to Musk. “Furthermore, Grok continued to repeat this false information for more than a week until it was corrected on July 31, 2024.”
